- Soundproofing of a cement factory in Austria
Soundproofing of a cement factory in Austria
Project Overview
Hatschek Rohrdorfer, a regional cement producer in Austria, faced a significant noise issue from the 70-meter-high cyclone used in their cement production process. The cyclone, which heats a calcium mixture for cement production, had five large maintenance openings, each measuring between 5 and 8 meters high and 6 meters wide. These openings allowed heat, but also substantial noise, to escape, affecting the residents. To maintain good relations with the community, Hatschek Rohrdorfer turned to DECIBEL for a solution to reduce the noise emitted from their facility.
The Challenge
DECIBEL was tasked with enclosing five large openings in the cyclone to prevent sound from escaping while ensuring the openings remained accessible for maintenance. The challenge was to design an effective noise reduction system without obstructing access for forklifts and to work within the limited space on the external platforms.
Scope of Work
- Design and install galvanised steel soundproof panels, perforated on the inner side for noise absorption.
- Create sliding soundproof doors for three openings to allow forklift access.
- Coordinate with a local civil engineering company for the installation process.
- Deploy a professional team of abseilers to install sliding door rails at height.
The Solution
DECIBEL designed custom acoustic enclosures using galvanised steel panels with perforations on the interior to absorb sound. For three of the five openings, sliding doors were installed to allow for forklift access, overcoming space constraints that prevented the use of traditional hinged doors. The installation, which required precision and the expertise of abseilers, was completed in 8 working days without disrupting ongoing operations.
Noise Control for Industrial Efficiency
This project not only improved the noise levels around the cement factory, significantly reducing disturbance for residents but also ensured that Hatschek Rohrdorfer could continue its operations smoothly. DECIBEL’s customised approach helped to maintain the company’s positive relationship with the local community, while also providing functional and durable noise control solutions.
