Soundproofing Heat Pump Unit in Vienna
Executive Summary
In the tranquil outskirts of Vienna, we tackled a noise problem for our client, addressing excessive heat pump unit noise disturbing a neighbour. We reduced noise levels by 20 dB(A), maintaining legal compliance while enhancing living conditions. The owner and architect client sought our expertise to overcome this challenge.
Scope of Work

Challenge
The primary challenge was reducing noise emissions from the heat pump unit while ensuring adequate airflow. The noise levels had exceeded legal limits, causing disturbances to nearby residents.
Solution
To address the problem, we implemented the following solutions:
- Covering the "cave" under the staircase with mineral wool for sound absorption
- Installing two sound-absorbing louvres at the air outlet and intake points
- Mounting the louvres on anti-vibration pads to account for small vibrations from the unit's foundation

Result
The implemented solutions successfully reduced noise levels by 20 dB(A), ensuring compliance with legal requirements and greatly improving the living conditions for neighbouring properties.
