Executive Summary

Mann & Hummel, an air filter factory located in Tešanj, Bosnia and Herzegovina, faced a significant challenge with noise levels exceeding 90 dB generated by their metal presses. The objective was to reduce the noise level to below 80 dB to ensure employees a safer and more comfortable working environment.

Scope of Work

  • Conduct an assessment of the noise levels generated by the metal presses.
  • Design and construct soundproofing cabins equipped with specialised features to mitigate noise transmission.
  • Install two doors in each cabin, including a larger sliding door with windows for primary access and a smaller sliding door for maintenance.
  • Implement a sensor system to detect door closure, preventing the machine from operating until the doors are fully closed.
  • Utilise 100mm thick metal perforated panels for soundproofing, along with soundproofing doors, windows, rollers for material transportation, and louvres to optimise noise reduction.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to reduce noise levels from the metal presses from over 90 dB to below 80 dB, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and providing a conducive working environment for employees.

Solution

We developed soundproofing cabins tailored to Mann & Hummel's specific requirements. These cabins featured two sliding doors, with one serving as the main access point equipped with windows for visibility and the other for maintenance tasks. A sensor system was integrated to ensure doors remained closed during machine operation. High-quality metal perforated panels, soundproofing doors and windows, specialised rollers, and louvres were utilised to reduce noise transmission and create a quieter working environment effectively.

Result

The implementation of soundproofing cabins and associated features successfully reduced noise levels generated by the metal presses, achieving a target of below 80 dB. Employees now benefit from a quieter and safer workplace environment, enhancing overall productivity and well-being. Mann & Hummel can operate their machinery with confidence, knowing that noise levels are within acceptable limits, thanks to the comprehensive soundproofing solution provided by DECIBEL.
