Project Overview

A longtime client approached DECIBEL to treat their podcast studio within their office area, which serves as a multi-functional space for filming short videos, recording audio clips, and editing sound for various applications. The studio, featuring a green accent wall and blank plaster-painted walls, had carpeted flooring that provided limited acoustic absorption. Despite the carpet, the room’s acoustics were insufficient for professional recording. DECIBEL conducted an on-site acoustic survey and developed a customised solution using Echo Wall textile acoustic panels, creating an optimal acoustic environment while maintaining the studio’s visual appeal.

Challenge

The client’s podcast studio faced several challenges:

  • Inadequate acoustic absorption caused disruptive echoes and uneven sound quality.
  • A green accent wall essential for video recordings needed to remain untreated.
  • Achieving optimal acoustic treatment without compromising the aesthetics or functionality of the studio.

These challenges required a highly tailored approach to ensure both acoustic and visual standards were met.

Scope of Work

  • Acoustic Assessment
  • Design Development
  • Material Specification
  • Visualisation and Approval
  • Installation

Solution

DECIBEL’s solution focused on treating the two side walls of the recording area to minimise reverberation and improve sound clarity. Using Echo Wall textile acoustic panels in a 3D arrangement, the design incorporated panels of varying thicknesses to address both low and high-frequency sound waves effectively. The panels were customised to align with the client’s aesthetic and functional requirements.

The installation was completed with precision, ensuring that the green wall remained fully functional for video recordings while the treated walls provided a balanced acoustic atmosphere.

Result

The studio was transformed into a professional-grade recording space with significantly improved acoustics. Post-installation testing confirmed that all acoustic targets were met, resulting in:

  • Reduced reverberation and echoes.
  • Enhanced sound clarity for audio recording and editing.
  • A more comfortable environment for daily use by multiple teams.

The client was highly satisfied with the final outcome, noting that the studio's upgraded acoustics positively impacted various departments.

  • Products Used: Echo Wall textile acoustic panels in two thicknesses for 3D design functionality.

Acoustics in Recording Studios

High-quality acoustic treatment is essential for recording studios, where sound clarity and precision directly impact production quality. Properly designed spaces reduce reverberation, minimise noise interference, and create an environment conducive to recording, editing, and mixing. DECIBEL’s acoustic solutions enhance productivity and ensure that recordings meet the highest professional standards.
