Project Overview

Radio NSL, a prominent radio station in Rome, experienced significant reverberation issues in its main broadcast room. These acoustic challenges led to a loss of sound clarity, adversely affecting the quality of both live transmissions and recorded content. The station sought a solution to enhance audio precision while ensuring a visually appealing and professional environment.

Challenge

The main broadcast room faced significant acoustic challenges that needed immediate attention. Excessive reverberation, particularly in mid and high frequencies, severely impaired speech intelligibility, making broadcasts less clear and professional. Additionally, uncontrolled low frequencies created muddiness in audio playback, further diminishing the room's sound quality. To address these issues effectively, the solution also had to seamlessly blend with the studio's functional needs and aesthetic design, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing environment.

Scope of Work

  • Assessed the acoustic profile of the room, identifying key problem areas.
  • Provided a comprehensive solution tailored to manage a wide frequency spectrum.
  • Installed the acoustic products with minimal disruption to the station’s operations.

Solution

To address the mid and high-frequency reverberation, we installed Echo Wall Panels and perforated wood WAVO Panels on the walls and ceiling. These panels were chosen in varying thicknesses (3 cm, 4 cm, and 5 cm) to optimise sound absorption across a broad frequency range while creating a visually dynamic texture.

To tackle low-frequency build-up, we strategically placed P Bass Traps in the corners of the room. These products significantly improved bass clarity, ensuring balanced audio performance.

The combination of these treatments resulted in an acoustically superior space, allowing Radio NSL to produce clear and professional-quality broadcasts.
